DescriptionThis was a project about happiness and dystopian societies. We made large essays describing happiness. How to obtain it and how to keep it. Along with that we read the book called Brave New World. I really liked this book and it was fun for me to read.

This project was definitely the hardest project I have had all this year in Humanities. We had to write resolutions, stay in the character of our country, write our own speeches, and research like none other. There was so much reading, researching, and writing involved in this project it was to overwhelming. Basically a very large amount of paper if all of it was printed. Other than that the project taught us about the way people solve problems peacefully and what happens inside of the UN. ReflectionThe project that we did in Humanities recently was the MUN(Model United Nations) project. This project was such a large project and had a certain level of difficulty that even the best in the area should have had trouble with. This is a project like no other and is very important also leaving an very large indent on your grade. The project gives you a perspective on how people go on trying to solve any crisis that is happening with peaceful intentions. It is definitely a complicated process that takes lots of time. I felt that I did well using the HOHAM Perseverance. It was very hard for me to stay focused on the project. There was too much writing and reading. I am a slow reader and get a lot of writers block when writing a lot. I can get of task easily and have a hard time focusing for a longer time that 1 hour. Like I said the reading/writing was the hardest part for me. I also said that after a while i lose focus and get of task. This is due to the mood I have towards the project and also since I can not focu on one subject for more than an hour. I have never really had much interest in Humanites and have had problems with the subject for-basically-ever. I think that all of the people who had to go against their beliefs and fully understand the other side of the equation. Not only did they have to write a speech against their conduct, but they also had to go into detail and research their brains off. They all had a good perspective on their countrys side and wrote for them. Those were the best speeches given out because they had to work to fight for the other side. Resolution Palestine/IsraelsGeneral Assembly Chile(Geoffrey Steiner) The Palestine - Israel conflict and solution Solution by Moving Palestinians to Other Areas The General Assembly, Alarmed by the fact that the conflict has been going on for 66 years seeing as it started in 1948, Noting with regret that the actual war went on for 50 years and was pretty brutal, Realizing that there has been a cease fire treaty made, Aware of the fact that this treaty has been broken many times over the years, Convinced that this conflict will not stop without a resolution that both parties can agree with, Guided by the Palestinians in Chile currently of which there are about half a million, Emphasizing that the Palestinians in Chile are mainly middle class and/or in a government position as of now as the article “Palestinian community in Chile” generalizes, Desiring the conflict to end so that there are no more losses of lives,
Policy Paper Palestine/IsraelGeoffrey Steiner Sara Price Model UN 3/3/14 Chile Policy Paper Although Chile understands that the people of Palestine want to have their own state or home to live in, we believe that there are many other countries that you can migrate to and that Israel has given you the chance to split the country. As of about the end of WWII the Jews were freed from the concentration camps of the German Nazi’s and found their home was taken along with their holy land. They then became Zionists, a Jewish group that created a political movement to create the country of Israel, and wanted to split the land between the two countries, but instead they got war and many years later the state of Israel was official. Now instead of splitting the land Israel controlled most of the land and there were and still are areas for the Palestinians to live. Lets go all the way back to the beginning of Palestinians in Chile. As said by the article “Palestinian community in Chile” the Palestinians came to Chile in around the 1850s the most of them were businessmen and also some were in agriculture. Then came the war in 1948 between Israel and Palestine and then even more came to Chile. A estimate from all of the sources and I would say that there is about half-million or higher amount of Palestinians in Chile. After a little more reading you find the source also says, “Many of the immigrants were very poor and illiterate and had to take loans to pay their travel costs… In the 1950s by the time of the second government of Carlos Ibáñez del Campo many Palestinian-Chileans had acquired substantial economic as well as political power in Chile” Which means that the Palestinians are still human and don’t always need the support of having their own country to back them up and they can adapt to new environments. A video “Palestinians in Chile seek to return to their homeland” backs this and says, “They have integrated easily to the social and economic life.” All in all the Palestinians should stop complaining about their country when there are other areas than Palestine to go. One of the solutions is to have the Palestinians move to another country and/or make a smaller country in any other uninhabited area in the world. There are multiple articles saying that Chile such as the article “One Hundred Years of Palestinians in Chile: New Paradigms” says that along with the largest population of Palestinians outside of the Arab world we also have Germans, British, Italians, Yugoslavians, and Spanish(obviously) and in the video “Israel Palestinian Conflict, The Truth About The West Bank” it states legally that Palestine was never really a country legally whereas Israel has been qualified as a country by both the League of Nations and by the UN. As you can see there is no legal place to return to and as a country we harbor all kinds of different religions and cultures in this world including a ton of Palestinians. There is no real reason for you to “need” your country if you can move to others. As long as the place is peaceful and won’t cause any more problems you will live peacefully and with the necessities. Resolution North KoreaChile(Geoffrey Steiner) North Korea Nuclear Weapons THE NORTH KOREAN NUCLEAR ISSUE RESOLUTION The General Assembly, Noting with satisfaction that there has been a lot of action on the North Korean nuclear weapons issues, Realizing that many sanctions have been place on North Korea as the article “North Korea” says, “The tougher sanctions impose penalties on North Korean banking, travel, and trade and were passed in a 15-0 vote”(North) Observing that North Korea has tested multiple rockets and missiles against UN sanctions, Fully aware of the tensions between the U.S. and North Korea growing stronger, Bearing in mind that North Korea has broke many of the other sanctions/embargoes, Aware of the fact that North Korea has basically ignored most all of these sanctions/embargoes we believe that North Korea should be punished further, Recalling the threats that North Korea has made on the U.S., South Korea, and Japan, With these pieces of evidence, Chile

Geoffrey Steiner Sara Price Model UN 2014 Chile Policy Paper Although North Korea has the right to protect itself from other higher powers, but Chile believes that North Korea should return to the NPT and has a bad enough economic situation. In the past North Korea has threatened three other countries with nuclear weapons. Those are South Korea, Japan, and North America one of our allies. If they had have stayed with the NPT there would be no real problem. To back me up on this there is a quote from the article “Fifteen Nuclear Agendas to Watch” that states, “Chile will urge India, Israel, and Pakistan to accede to the treaty and call on North Korea to return to it.”(Fifteen) As you can tell Chile is a very pro NPT country and pushes others that have not signed to become a member. Also North Korea has a bad economic situation and as the movie “Inside North Korea” gives a generalization of how bad the economic situation is and how malnourished the people are it says that around 40% of children in North Korea are malnourished and if they had not built these expensive nuclear bombs they would not be in such a state.(Inside) We, Chile believe that North Korea should return to the NPT not only because this Steiner 2 would solve the main problem of North Korea’s nuclear weapons, but would also keep North Korea from distributing this technology to places like Iran. Remember that DPRK also is mainly protecting itself. As it says in “Why does North Korea Need Nuclear Weapons” it backs me up and says, “Why does North Korea want nuclear weapons? To guarantee its security.”(Why). Also if North Korea were to sell this technology it would make them even more wealthy and most likely allow them to produce more of these weapons, but if they were to use the money they gained correctly then the people would maybe not eat each other. In the article “New reports of starving North Koreans resorting to cannibalism come amid renewed tensions between Pyongyang and Washington”( I know that is a long title ) says, “After defecting to South Korea in 2001, a former official under Kim Jong Il told Asia Press that he had heard of more than a dozen cases of cannibalism in the North.”(New) Now the people of North Korea are starting to go so hungry that they are eating each other. If that is not enough proof to stop the North Korean nuclear weapons program then I don’t know what is. Steiner 3 Works Cited "Fifteen Nuclear Agendas to Watch." Council on Foreign Relations. The tragedy we created was 8 pages long and I had only gotten 1 drawing partially done by the start of the weekend and that was only one of the pages in the story. So I shortened it by about 3 pages and then got to work on the drawings and embedding them in to the document. Thankfully I got it done in time for the start of class on Monday, but I am proud of how much I had done over the weekend.
If I was a student for next year I would be advised to be organized for this project and not slack off because if you don't work hard you might not get what you're expecting grade wise. Always remember that this class doubles in final grades as english and social studies. So if you have a lower grade than you want you will have a lower GPA and that could become trouble for college. For me having a partner is nice because then I have less stress put on me or you can see it as lifting a weight with someone else is easier than by your self. My partner and I got along and we had a fun time making this project. We mess around maybe a bit too much, but it ended up working out so it was alright. Other than that I was sick the day that we needed to present we have no regrets. The hardest part was finishing all of the drawings in time for the next Monday because I can't focus on one thing for more than an hour and it took away from my DP. Although I did find an easier way to do the graphic novel it was still a lot of work for the weekend. Breaking out of "The Man Box"
The cycle of socialization is sometimes a vicious process, but there are some good things that come with socialization, such as how to act in front of everybody, our manners, and so on, but there are some bad things that should not be the rules of our society The “Man Box”, the thing that all men have to have to be a man. “The Man Box” has multiple items that “define” us as men. All men have to follow these very rules to be a man. I have set up an example of “The Man Box” to the right of my mask if you would like to see those “rules” in definition. I have been socialized to believe that I, as a male, for example can’t cry or show any emotions whatsoever, with the exception of anger, I will never need directions and know everything, and I have to be very athletic and strong. It is very plainly shown in all men that they can’t and will not cry, especially when women are around, infact they might be afraid to cry in front of women. In fact you need to cry or your eyes will get too dry. “Cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it” - Unknown. It’s unhealthy to keep one’s feelings bottled up and shoved deep down inside. It is bad for you to hold so much stress in like that and not let your feelings out. It is almost a taboo, something that is taken very badly in a culture, to cry in front of women as a man because you have to be like a rock and not be a “softie”. Not that it isn’t ok to be the rock every once in awhile, sometimes you have to be the rock so that others can lean on you to help them. Everybody should be able to cry no matter what their gender is it’s just not right to have to keep all of your feelings tucked inside of yourself and not be able to express those feelings. Nobody knows everything, you will need to ask questions a lot, everybody has to ask questions at least once every so often. “The only source of knowledge is experience.” - Albert Einstein. I ask questions daily. You are not born with all of the knowledge in the world, we learn about it throughout life. Learning is part of our culture as a society, that’s why we have elementary, middle, high schools, and even college. Have you ever noticed that a lot of men, when they have something to build or do, they will not follow directions, this is one of the side effects of this habit. As a matter of fact, we are even currently still getting more knowledge from things around us such as space and even from our own soil on planet Earth. Everybody thinks of me as the man to ask and sometimes I will know what they’re talking about and will be able to help him/her with their problem, but there are some things that I just very plainly have problems with, one of those being Humanities. Nobody knows everything, you learn these things over time not the second you are born. Not all males are strong and athletic. You always see strong males in the media never the “weaker” males. You have to be buff and strong to be popular. Some boys are born without the physical needs to play sports. It’s not your fault if you are not all that and better. I have never really wanted to grow up and have my career be a sweaty mess, not to put down being athletic, but the athletes are loved so very much that it pressures you to be the best you can to be strong and athletic so that you get the girls and are popular. Professional athletes are also a great contribution to the economy in that you have millions of people who watch sports on the television and in person and end up paying a lot of money doing those certain things, but there are tons of male scientists such as the very famous Albert Einstein, who I quoted earlier, and Nikola Tesla, one of my favorite scientists, but one of the least known, and they did amazing things in their lifetime. That is where my love of math and science comes from. The amazing facts of what is in our world and what is in space so far away from us. You don’t have to be athletic to be a man, you can just live off of your smarts and what you know about the world. I don’t need to be a “stereotypical” man to still be a “man”. I love to cook for my family, I even bake bread. There is really no specific definition for a man, since there are so many different men out there in this world, that are who they are. There are some things that you need to know even if you are a man. “The Man Box” does not need to define us as men or even little boys. As a male I should be able to be who I want to be without being judged. On my mask is me getting out of “The Man Box” norms and breaking free to be myself and who I want to be without anybody judging me as who I am. |
